How to Grind Flats on Carbide End Mills

Carbide end mills often do not come with flats machined on the shank to use in CNC tool holders. By using a diamond wheel and a bench or manual grinder, you can make your own flat for the screw that holds the end mill in place when using just such a holder. Taking small amounts of material at a time will prevent heat build-up and damage to the diamond wheel, resulting in a perfect flat every time.
